Bainbridge Island Parks & Recreation
MULTIDISCIPLINARY • $2,500

Festival held on the first Sunday in August in

and musical entertainment.
Island Theatre
THEATER • $1,580
Six bimonthly play readings at the Library,
and six potluck readings in private homes,
offered free to the public. Criteria for material
chosen are that it is good literature and
good theater, offering opportunities for
actors and audiences.
Island Music Teachers Guild
MUSIC • $1,150
For presentation of an outdoor dance
concert at the Farmers’ Market square on
July 19 as the culminating event of IMTG’s
annual music summer camp. This public
event features Yerbabuena Orchestra, one
of the region’s premier Latin ensembles,
and includes a pre-concert dance workshop,
a free public lecture on different
types of Latin music, and Latin food.
Kristin Tollefson
MULTIDISCIPLINARY • $1,230
Publication of an artist’s book with maps,
drawings inspired by botanical illustration,
photographs, and writing about native
flora on Bainbridge Island. The 6 x 9-inch
spiral bound book, printed as a run of
200, will contain post-printing drawings
and prints by the artist, making each one
a unique work of art as well as
documentary reference. A public talk at
the Library will detail the research for the
project, which makes the connection

To create a performance of contemporary
dance, newly choreographed and revisited
works, featuring dance professionals from the
Puget Sound region and students from
Bainbridge Island. The production will create
an integrated company that fosters strong
mentor opportunities, furthers the artist’s
choreographic vocation, and provides the
community with an evening of dance.
Bainbridge Island Historical Society
HUMANITIES • $1,195
The Bainbridge Island Oral History Project will
identify both life-long and long-time residents
whose memories and personal experiences can
enhance our understanding of this community.
Oral histories will be captured and permanently
preserved through audiotapes and transcriptions for the benefit
of present and future generations of scholars, museum visitors,
and community members.
Field’s End
LITERARY ART• $1,264
To support a free monthly Writers’ Roundtable
at the Bainbridge Library, a forum for writers
to discuss writing that is open to writers and
community members interested in writing.

a sense of community, and serve the needs of different types of
writers.
Helpline House
HUMANITIES • $1,100
The Empty Bowls Project provides a tool to
educate the community on how to fight the
global problem of hunger. With artist Jenny
Anderson, kids create ceramic bowls and serve a simple meal of soup
and bread. Guests choose a bowl and keep it as a reminder that there
are
always empty bowls in the world, and in
exchange for a meal and a bowl, make a
donation to the Helpline food bank.
Charmelle Poole
VISUAL ART • $3,406
For a walking labyrinth in the Park District’s
upper Eagledale Park, providing a landscaped
meditative retreat with a view of Mt. Rainier.
Roman pavers will be used to construct the
winding labyrinth, which is designed to create a
dialogue with the environment away from
everyday noise.
