BAINBRIDGE ISLAND ARTS AND HUMANITIES FUND ANNOUNCES 2007
AWARDS
Cultural programming on Bainbridge Island will touch more lives
in 2007 because of 17 projects supported in part by the Bainbridge
Island Arts and Humanities Fund. Established fifteen years ago
by the City and managed by the BIAHC, this funding program exists
to increase access to the arts and humanities, encourage multi-cultural
appreciation, and benefit the community. This year five panelists,
with expertise in the various disciplines represented by the
applications, recommended funding in the total amount of $35,000
for:
Literary Arts
FIELD'S END
Writers' Roundtable $1,458
Free monthly community forums featuring published authors providing
their writing skills and expertise to all types of writers.
History / Humanities
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND JAPANESE AMERICAN COMMUNITY
Nidoto Nai Yoni Oral History Project $5,000
Twelve new oral histories of Japanese Bainbridge Islanders interned
during World War II and community members who had relationships with
these internees.
MARY DOMBROWSKI
Bainbridge Island Filipino-Americans in WWII $1,228
A documentary of Bainbridge Island Filipino veterans and civilians
during 1941 - 1944.
TEAM YEOMALT
Yeomalt Cabin Rehabilitation Documentation $1,170
Continuation of the video documentation of the restoration of Yeomalt
Log Cabin, a property listed on the National Register of Historic
Places.
Music
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND YOUTH ORCHESTRA
Bainbridge Island Young Soloists Concert
$1,500
An educational series of rehearsals, culminating in a public concert
featuring three soloists from the Bainbridge Island Youth Orchestra.
SUE JANE BRYANT
The Island Gallery Spring Concert Series
$1,000
Presentation of three concerts at The Island Gallery. This classical
chamber music series will incorporate chamber music amid art.
ISLAND MUSIC GUILD
Island Music Guild Access Events
$3,195
Funding of the ongoing Zeitgeist Teen Dance Series, Teen Music Club
Night, all community access concerts, and free technical support
for the Island Community Music Academy and IMG Music and Audio Library.
ISLAND SOUNDSCAPE PLAYERS
Time-Line — A Chamber Music Series
$1,000
Three public performances of selected chamber works written in the
twentieth and twenty-first centuries utilizing a variety of instrumentation
and multi-media presentations.
MUSIC COMMUNITY RESOURCES
Seniors Concert Series $750
A free multigenerational concert series at the Winslow Arms Apartments.
A variety of music from contemporary to classical, open to seniors
in residence and the public, will be presented.

Theatre
ISLAND THEATRE
Island Theatre Play Readings $2,000
Seven staged play readings (14 performance dates) at the Bainbridge Public Library
and five potluck play readings in private homes.
OVATION! MUSICAL THEATRE
Oklahoma! $2,315
Ovation will present the Rodgers & Hammerstein American classic, Oklahoma,
with live orchestra, in nine performances this July on the BHS LGI stage.
Visual Arts
BAINBRIDGE ARTS AND CRAFTS
Art of the Book Exhibition Brochure

An educational brochure documenting a curated exhibition of book art, Nov2 -
Dec 4 at BAC.
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND SPECIAL NEEDS FOUNDATION
Brilliance Revealed $3,250
A visual arts exhibition that showcases the artistic talent of special needs
individuals in our community and strengthens community connections.
JOEL SACKETT
Barbershop Portraits $2,500
A series of portraits, with narrative material, taken in Sandy's Barbershop and
exhibited in the window and interior of Sandy's.
Multi-Disciplinary / Collaboration
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND PARKS FOUNDATION
Yeomalt Cabin Stage Reconstruction
$2,000
Rebuild the stage in Yeomalt Cabin, (a 1935 WPA-built log theater and meeting
hall) for cultural performances, presentations, community events, and celebrations
for all ages.
BAINBRIDGE PERFORMING ARTS
Community Arts Day 2007 $1,634
A free community arts festival on April 28 at The Playhouse that includes performances
and exhibits by local artists and arts organizations, a volunteer recognition
ceremony, and the announcement of BPA's 2007-8 season.
THE PICTURE PROJECT
This Is My Family $2,500
A three-part project with area school students, featuring a drawing assignment
based on the theme, "This Is My Family", a public exhibit of the artwork,
and a short documentary film about the project.
