CULTURAL FUNDING PROGRAM:
Following
a community initiative begun in 2004, Mayor Darlene Kordonowy
established the Cultural Funding program in 2007. Through the
Cultural Funding Program, the City of Bainbridge Island allocates
public dollars to island cultural organizations in support of
operations.
The program is intended to serve three purposes:
To build on the strengths of the people, organizations, and systems currently in place;
To explore options to ensure an equitable, fair, and transparent
process available to all, with decisions based on clear criteria, the
annual prioritized needs of the Island’s cultural community, and the
City of Bainbridge Island Comprehensive Plan’s Cultural Element;
To increase the financial stability and capacity of Island cultural
organizations, and identify options to broaden the funding base for the
Island’s cultural community.
