9th Annual Bainbridge Island
Student Art Contest Results
Sunday, March 1, 2009
Bainbridge Island celebrated a successful tribute to young people's creativity during the 9th Annual Student Art Contest at the Pavilion on Sunday, March 1st. Bainbridge Island's young residents and students ranging in age from Kindergarten through High School competed for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards in seven different categories. Dinah Satterwhite, the founder and manager of the Student Art Contest, reports that there were 187 entries this year.
This year's Best of Show prize went to High School student Natasha Forrler for her acrylic painting "Spread the Love." The piece is a large acrylic on canvas, with bold splashes of color bursting in every direction. The judges were unanimous in their decision this year for Best of Show, and commented that Natasha should not lose her "fearlessness." They loved her courageous use of color and sense of the abstract. Natasha won $100 in cash, a beautiful achievement certificate, movie passes, a gift certificate from Water & Oil Artist Supply, and gift certificates to Café Madison at the Pavilion, CreateIt! Mosaics at the Pavilion, Sound Reprographics, Penelope's, Streamliner Diner, Café Nola, and an oil painting class with local artist Darrell Anderson.
Each first place winner received $25 cash, second place winners received $10 cash, and third place winners received $5 cash. Ten Honorable Mention certificates were also awarded. Plus every student who entered the contest received a bright yellow ribbon at the end of the Award Ceremony.
