Join BIAHC on Friday, April 16, at 7pm, in the Bainbridge High School Commons for a panel discussion by local authors, screenwriters, and filmmakers on the process of turning a literary work into a film.

Join David Guterson, Randy Sue Coburn, and Anthony Flacco for an unforgettable evening as the discussion takes literary inspiration to the visual reality of the big screen. Moderated by Kimberlee Gillis-Bridges of the University of Washington.  Your participation benefits Bainbridge Island’s arts and humanities programs that depend on your support. Tickets are limited and can be purchased in advance online (see 'buy now' button above) for $20.00 and at the door for $25.00.

About the Panelists:

David Guterson
David Guterson

David Guterson began his professional career as an English teacher. During his teaching career he began to publish stories and essays in small magazines and periodicals, later writing for Esquire, Sports Illustrated and Harper's Magazine. Guterson is best known as the author of Snow Falling on Cedars (1994) for which he received the 1995 PEN/Faulkner Award. Snow Falling on Cedars was adapted into a screenplay for the 1999 film of the same title. The film was directed by Scott Hicks and starred Ethan Hawke, James Cromwell, Sam Shepherd, and Max Von Sydow. It went on to receive an Academy Award nomination for cinematography. Mr. Guterson will be sharing the journey this novel took from book to film.

Anthony Flacco
Anthony Flacco

Anthony Flacco is a trained stage actor credited with over 2,000 performances. Also an accomplished screen writer, Mr. Flacco was selected for the prestigious American Film Institute fellowship in Screenwriting where he won the AFI’s Paramount Studios Fellowship Award for his script, The Frog's Legacy. He was also selected for the Walt Disney Studio Screenwriting Fellowship where he spent a year writing for the Touchstone Pictures division.

Flacco wrote and published 4 fiction and nonfiction works between 2007 and 2009. Mr. Flacco comments: “With my screenwriting background, I make it a point to write in strongly visual terms. I do this to aid in establishing the most important part of any storytelling endeavor: getting into the heart and mind of the central characters.”
