The Bainbridge Island Arts Education Community Consortium is an innovative community program that mobilizes involvement of community arts organizations, businesses, professional artists, families, individuals, and government in support of the arts in our schools.

BIAECC supports arts education in the Bainbridge Island public schools by teaching art skills to classroom teachers, training artists in integrating arts in the classroom setting, by bringing local professional teaching artists into classrooms, offering professional performance opportunities, training art docents, and acquiring and creating arts education resource materials for use by teachers, parents and students.

Founded in 1999, the Arts Education Community Consortium now encompasses all schools in the district, impacting more than 4000 children and over 70 teachers. Over 20 community arts organizations and 30 professional teaching artists serve as arts resources for the school district in this program. Ninety parent and community volunteer art docents add hundreds of hours of additional arts lessons each month.

The program is administered by the nonprofit Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Council (BIAHC), and is funded by the Washington State Arts Commission, the Bainbridge Island School District, the Parent Teacher Organization, grants, and community donations. The 1998 budget was $8000. The 2010 budget is over $150,000, including over $60,000 in-kind donations of time and expertise from the community.
