THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY CELLULOID BAINBRIDGE FILM FESTIVAL

March 15 & 16, 2009 The Historic Lynwood Theatre
4569 Lynwood Center Road

Saturday, March 15, 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m
Sunday, March 16, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m
Free! Donations benefit the Celluloid Bainbridge Filmmakers Finishing Fund

The Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Council invites the community to celebrate Celluloid Bainbridge’s tenth year of showcasing Bainbridge Island filmmakers and films. Initially part of the Bainbridge Island Arts Walk, Celluloid Bainbridge quickly grew into its own event at the Historic Lynwood Theatre as, year after year, it managed to attract or unearth a day or more’s worth of movies that were either made on Bainbridge Island or featured a past or present Bainbridge Island in the cast or crew.

Highlights over the years – all with surprising Bainbridge connections – include Woody Allen’s What’s Up, Tiger Lily?, Sherman Alexis’ Smoke Signals; The Last Detail, with Jack Nicholson; and the 3-D classic, It Came from Outer Space. Plus over 265 other masterpieces, in all sizes and genres, from more than 250 contributors.

Filmmaker Forums: Celluloid Bainbridge is offering two free filmmaker forums, open to the non-filmmaking public as well:

Saturday, March 15 – 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. The Independent Film: From Start to Finish. Bainbridge Island filmmaker Charles Oliver describes the independent film process from conception, screenplay, and attracting big-name actors to filming, financing, and distribution. He uses his soon-to-be released film, Take, an award-winning drama about restorative justice starring Minnie Driver, Jeremy Renner, and Bobby Coleman, as “Exhibit A.” http://www.takethemovie.com/home.html

Sunday, March 16 – 10 a.m. – noon. Film and the Law. This is scary stuff, but crucial if you want your film to be shown anywhere other than Celluloid Bainbridge! Join Washington Lawyers for the Arts for an intimate and informative discussion with a panel of very savvy people from Seattle’s film industry. They’ll discuss how to raise the funds to make a film, the art of low- and micro-budget films, how to acquire a screenplay and story rights, intellectual property issues, how to sell a script, and the resources and pitfalls of distribution, both legal and financial. Bring your questions!
